“Morning team, big day for CIXI! It’s the first time one of our clients has announced officially the shift of all its bike range to chainless. Heads up: first deliveries in July 2025.”

Pierre Francis, CEO, CIXI

This summer, Ateliers HeritageBike launches four new electric models, and each of them breaks with 150 years of tradition: no chain, no belt, no mechanical transmission at all. Instead, every bike runs on the PERS Chainless Pedaling System created by CIXI in Annecy, France.

Built in Annecy, for Roads Everywhere

Near the shores of Lake Annecy, Ateliers HeritageBike has been building electric bikes by hand since 2019. Every model is crafted in small batches, with a balance of precision, elegance, and engineering excellence. But this year, the story changes.

In a historic move, Ateliers HeritageBike is shifting its entire new range to chainless technology, through a partnership with fellow Annecy-based company CIXI. Together,

they’re launching four new e-bikes, each powered by PERS Chainless Pedaling System, designed and assembled always in Annecy, France.

From Muscle to Motion, Electronically

Since 2016, CIXI has been committed to transforming passive transportation into active, human-powered motion. Its patented PERS system redefines pedaling by converting muscle power directly into electricity.

With PERS, there’s no chain, belt, or gear system. Instead, the full system is electronic. Energy goes straight from the pedals to the motor, with automatic torque adjustment in real-time. Cadence stays smooth on climbs, descents, or at 45 km/h.

“No cogs, no grease, no gear shifting,” wrote Guide Vélo in their review, available here: https://guide-velo.com/heritagebike-3987

“Just a crankset that becomes electronic. A world first. And it’s made in France,” they add.

Four Models, One Vision

The four new models reflect HeritageBike’s core values: performance, elegance, and a clear point of view.

  • Heritage Heroes Touring – steel frame, fat tires, classic silhouette (39 kg)

  • Heritage Escapade –carbon frame, off-road-ready build (28 kg)

  • Heritage Heroes GT –45 km/h speedbike, dual battery, Magura brakes (43 kg)

  • Heritage Style – sleek urban design, carbon frame, Super Moto X tires (28 kg)

Each is handcrafted in France, using top-tier components: Brooks Cambium saddles, Supernova lighting, and custom paint options. Production is limited. Quality is not.

“With this launch, HeritageBike isn’t just following the high-end trend,” noted Guide Vélo.“It’s proposing a new way to think about the bicycle: less mechanical, more intelligent — without losing the joy of pedaling.”

What the PERS System Changes

Here’s what riding a PERS-powered bike means:

  • No mechanical transmission : no chain, belt or derailleur
  • Natural pedaling feel: the algorithm adjusts resistance in real time
  • No gear shifting : just ride, and the torque responds to your pace
  • Regenerative braking : slows the bike and charges the battery
  • Low maintenance : fewer parts, fewer problems
  • Connected : built-in anti-theft, silent operation, smartphone-ready

“This is a true technological breakthrough in electric cycling,” said Xavier Wargnier. “We’re only scratching the surface of what this can unlock.” He adds.
